Hi,
Welcome back to Weekly Carb-Loading! Your weekly dose of running and fitness inspiration curated from around the world, straight to your inbox.
In the midst of the global Covid-19 lock-down, have you had days when there’s time for a workout, but your body and mind refuse to budge?
“Done with work, and helped with housework too. I’ve accomplished so much! Let’s relax for a bit. Why exercise?” This thought has chewed at each one of us!
After two weeks of reliving the past, this week we’re at home fighting Lethargy, so read on, stare it in the face when it approaches, and beat it!
Before we continue, a friendly reminder, you can reach out to us anytime on <weeklycarbloading@gmail.com> with your opinions, suggestions and thoughts.
We’re also on Twitter @carbweekly with small servings of carbs throughout the week!
So, lets dive in.
Getting ‘through’ a workout isn’t tough in a pandemic. Getting ‘to’ a workout is the difficult bit. Lethargy is easy, and there is no end to the excuses that it will throw at you.
“Why bother? You can’t head out for a run, and all the gyms are closed”
“I’m putting on weight, but its happening to all of us, right?”
“Workout at home, in front of family? How weird, they may laugh!”
“Won’t the neighbor come knocking due to the racket?”
“Why not Netflix instead?”
Its easy to lose energy and motivation while you’re alone. That’s why we’re here! Its the reason this newsletter was born. You’re not alone!
We’re all stuck in our homes, on our sofas, the same thoughts going through our all our heads in the evening.
“Change, stretch and sweat it out, or relax, close your eyes and nap for a bit?”
Fight It
Push yourself out of lethargy for those few crucial decision-making moments.
Do whatever you want to do - Zumba in the living room. Stair climbing. A brisk walk or run on the terrace. All options are on the table. Go for it!
Think about a visible change.
“Can I come out of this lock-down looking stronger and fitter, while everyone else in office has put on weight?”
Think about going to sleep tonight tired and exhausted, with the positive glow of having sweated it out. You’re not working out at home ‘due to’ the quarantine, but ‘despite’ it!
Don’t Overthink It
‘Information lethargy’ is a common curse. You’re excited to start, you read about and watch a few home workouts online, do the research, but get overwhelmed with the idea and give up. Don’t.
Split the workout into several parts and attack just the first one. If it seems too onerous, do only small part of it. You don’t have to ace it on the first day.
Use the Two - Minute Rule. Make the task at hand as easy as possible to start. Master the art of showing up, if only for just two minutes. Some exercise is better than no exercise at all!
Beat It, Everyday
You need to resist lethargy only for a few minutes. Once you’re moving, there’s momentum. Once you’ve worked out for a day, its easier the next day. You’ve already been there done that. A couple of days in, you’re on a roll! Nothing can stop you.
No better day than today. No better time than now. Get off the sofa. Beat lethargy!
